  1. Hi Linda, you mentioned in the piece on Simon the film, "The Supernatural Influence. This was one of the first films to show complete nudity on television in Western Australia during an initiation ceremony and showed various Craft workings." I wonder if this was the same film that Tanith and Sarah, from WA (who David mentioned in a previous post and who came to Mt Franklin in the late 80s, I think) mentioned that they were in. I remember that Sarah said that she was nude in the film, and that she wore a blonde wig (she was a brunette). I think she said she was being filmed getting handfasted to a guy called something like... Helios, I think it was. Or perhaps it was Nevill Drury's "The Occult Experience"? I've seen that one - but about 20 years ago - but I haven't seen the other one... not so as I can remember anyway. Maybe I have... not sure. Hang on... now I'm getting visions of lots of people in blonde wigs... and cigarettes? Hey! was that the film where one group all wore long blonde wigs and someone was smoking in the circle? Or am I dreaming remembering it?

  2. Hi Cazz, it has been an aeon since I saw that film. Can't help you with the details, sorry! I do know that Simon lost his job as an ambulance medic over it, and ended up in the public service, which took him to Melbourne, where we met him. Wheels within wheels. I wonder if you could lose a job like that today, in the same circumstances. Linda.

  3. I think you could very well lose a job today in the same sort of circumstances, but you might be able to bring some sort of "unfair dismissal" defense case against your employer, but I'm not sure really, not being much of an expert on having a job or on legal things. The only reason my tapestry job employers weren't simply horrified at my occult interests was because they were arty, but I'm sure if I'd had a straighter job they'd have been much more dark on me about my after-work interests. I mean it was not even _that_ OK with the tapestry workshop, sure, it was OK within the workshop, but not so OK outside in the public relations area of dealing with patrons and stuff like that. They like arty, but they don't want you to be _too_ weird! And because a lot of people don't understand religion, they don't understand non-mainstream religion even more.

  4. My boss always wants a wizard working in the kitchen anyway. In this day and age no one really cares if you have alternative beliefs. Australia is such a pan-religious society now that pagans, witches and satanist all pretty much go unnoticed.

  5. Yeah, I must admit that it is the Muslims who are most "demonised" in that regard - as in people thinking they "belong to a scary religion".
